Column roles

The Role list in the mapping window groups the roles by where they end up. The roles under Tool only · not exported steer the conversion and the viewer and write nothing of their own.

RoleGroupWhat it does
Join keyTool only · not exportedMatches the spreadsheet rows to the objects by name. Required.
Area checkTool only · not exportedThe spreadsheet area, compared with the area of the geometry. Also used to rebuild shapes.
Display name (viewer)Tool only · not exportedThe name in the viewer's tree. Not written to any file.
gml:idIdentityThe unique ID of the object in the file, used by references.
gml:nameIdentityThe name of the object in the file.
DescriptionIdentityOne line of remarks, written as gml:description.
External referenceIdentityThe object's key in an outside registry, written as core:externalReference. Type the registry's address once in Information system URI next to its chip.
Parent buildingHierarchyRows with the same value become parts of one bldg:Building.
Storey · 3.0 · CityJSONHierarchyBuilds storeys under the building in CityGML 3.0 and CityJSON. CityGML 2.0 has no storey, so there the value goes out as an attribute.
Floor (attribute)AttributeThe floor as one attribute value. The storey level itself comes from Storey.
Created (DB)Lifespan · DBcore:creationDate, the day the record was created in the database, not a real-world date. In ISO 8601 form, such as 2027-03-11.
Terminated (DB)Lifespan · DBcore:terminationDate, the day the record was removed from the database. In ISO 8601 form.
Country to PostalCodeAddress · xALThe parts of bldg:address: Country, AdministrativeArea, SubAdministrativeArea, Locality, DependentLocality, Thoroughfare, ThoroughfareNumber and PostalCode, named as in OASIS xAL.

The address roles keep the xAL names on purpose, so that no country's terms are built in. You decide which column fills which part: AdministrativeArea is the top level below the country, such as a province or a state, and Locality is the city level.

Tip:The role guide in the mapping window (?) lists every role with an example.
