Your first conversion
This walk-through starts with Insula3D installed and activated and a model open in its window. See Installation and Opening models for those steps.
To convert a model:
- In the Data panel, under Spreadsheet, click Browse and choose your
.xlsxfile. If you do not have one yet, click Template to make one with every object name already filled in, then fill in the columns your delivery needs. See Attach a spreadsheet. - Under Mapping, click Build. In the mapping window, set Join key to the column that holds the object names, give the other columns their roles, and click Done. See Map the spreadsheet columns.
- Choose ConvertOutput settings… to open the Output window. Under Location · name, choose the folder and the file name, then turn on the formats you need: CityGML, IFC, FBX or GLB. CityJSON is always written. See Choose formats and the output folder.
- Click Preflight to check the inputs before the run, then click Convert or press Ctrl+Enter.
- When the conversion finishes, click View results to open what was written in the viewer. See Find problems.
Without a spreadsheet, Convert asks first: Convert geometry only leaves out the attributes, the building hierarchy and the area check, and Make template spreadsheet starts a spreadsheet with the object names filled in.
Tip:Changed the model in 3ds Max or Blender? Send the selection again, or choose FileReload from 3ds Max / Blender. Your spreadsheet and mapping stay set.
To come back to the model later, choose FileSave (Ctrl+S). The .cmif.json work file keeps the model with the spreadsheet and mapping it uses, the layer settings, the coordinate system and the map placement, and FileOpen… opens it with all of them set again. A model sent from 3ds Max or Blender asks where to save it first, and Save as… saves it under another name.
